Cashel Main Street - ‘Dangerous’ Paving

At this month’s meeting of Cashel Town Council, Cllr Maribel Wood requested that the “very dangerous footpath on the north side of the Main Street adversely referred to in this year’s tidy towns report be upgraded as a matter of priority”.

Town Clerk Marie McGivern responded: “The footpath on North side of Main Street between the ‘Back of Pipes’ and Canopy Street is mostly surfaced in large paving slabs which are considered to be of heritage value although they have suffered from traffic damage over the years.

The replacement of this footpath was part of the proposal to upgrade all of Main Street footpaths as part of the Town Centre Strategy.

It was decided earlier this year to include an area of footpath on south side of Main Street from City Bar to Bakehouse Café in the 2012 Roadworks Programme.

The footpath on north side of Main Street will be considered when the 2013 Roadworks Programme is being prepared.
