Baroness O’Loan Visits Mt Sion Residence

The rain failed to dampen spirits as Baroness Nuala O’Loan arrived to plant a tree in the grounds of Mount Sion Community Residence on Friday July 6th.

The staff and residents were there to welcome the Baroness along with members of the Friends of Mount Sion, Deputy Mayor of Tipperary, Cllr Anna Tuohy Halligan, Mr. John Dwan of the H.S.E. along with local and visiting Councillors, the Pride of Tipperary, Ms. Diana Buckley and Miss Sunday World, Ms. Esme Mansergh Wallace.

Martin Quinn spoke of inclusion and of the importance of Mount Sion to community life in Tipperary and said that it was great to have a second person from Northern Ireland to plant a tree in the grounds as the previous one had been planted there by Archbishop Robin Eames in 2007.

Baroness O’Loan said that she was delighted to be in Mount Sion as she had a particular interest in the whole area of mental health. She said that the planting of a tree is a very symbolic gesture as when we plant and care for trees, alone or together, we begin to build an internal place of peace, beauty, safety and joy.
