A young Nenagh man was in a serious condition this Tuedsay following a single vehicle crash near Knockalton junction on the R445, the old N7 road, on Monday night. The accident happened at around 11.30pm.
The youth, who is aged 19, was not named, but is understood to be from the Ballynaclough area. He was brought to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital, where his condition is understood to be serious but not critical.
The road remained closed this Tuesday while Gardai awaited the arrival of a Garda forensic collision investigation team.
Meanwhile, Noel Heenan, 26, from Pairc na Cille, Lorrha, was pronounced dead at the scene of a two vehicle crash near Borrisokane last Thursday, January 31. Mr Heenan was driving a motorcycle that crashed into a car near Killeen on the Borrisokane to Portumna road at around 12.30pm. He was pronounced dead at the scene and was taken to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital. The driver of the car was uninjured.
Local gardai described road conditions at the time as being “good”.
The accident is still being investigated by the Gardai, who are appealingfor witnesses to contact Borrisokane Garda station on 067-27101, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line, 1800-666111, or any Garda station.
This Monday, the M8 southbound had to be closed following a two-vehicle crash between Junction 6, Thurles, and Junction 7, Cashel North. The laneway was closed for a number of hours after 9am. No one was injured in the crash, but a 300m section of the motorway had to be closed so emergency services could remove debris and fuel from the roadway.
