What next for Cashel’s Chain of Office?

Cashel Town Council’s Chain of Office cannot just be lodged in a safe and forgotten about when the Council is disbanded next May.

Cashel and its hinterland will need to establish a civic forum to advance the best interests of the area following the closure of the Civic Offices. When the Council’s Chain of Office was stolen in 1990 Mr. Padraig O’Mathúna, a native of Cashel and an internationally acclaimed artist/goldsmith, was commissioned to craft a new one which he presented to then Chairman, Cllr Dick Wood, at a special ceremony in the City Hall in March 1992. In acknowledging the affection held by Mr O’Mathúna for his native Cashel, Cllr Wood said Cashel was proud to have in its midst such a highly acclaimed artist. “The Chain, now part of the history of Cashel which would live on, was a magnificant piece from a magnificant artist.”
