What a year - Nine cups for Cashel RFC

2009 has been the most extraordinary year in the life of Cashel RFC. All teams from the Under 8's right up to the 1st XV had a truly annus mirabilis.

Underage teams

Cashel’s underage teams either won or were participants in the final of most competitions. This feat is in no small part due to the time and dedication of coaches and players. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our players, coaches and parents for all the time and effort put in by all. Without this dedication the club would not be able to field the senior squad, have such a strong representation playing with senior clubs, at Munster level, not to mention International Level.

Senior Teams

The 2nd XV had an unbeaten season from start to finish and were the envy of all other clubs this year - this platform set up the 1st XV who had a remarkable year of success. In addition to the cups they reached the playoffs to go senior and narrowly missed out in the end. We would like to thank all our players for their time and effort and to all the supporters who traveled and made it such a great year.

The clubhouse was officially opened during the summer and stands as testament to all those who put in the backbreaking work on the the building and grounds which is a continual effort by all those involved.

All of the above resulted in the club being awarded 'Junior Club of the Year 2009' - a great achievement for a small organisation. Well done!

Congratulations to those who have left the club to play at a higher level - all those playing senior, those playing representative rugby with Munster and those playing at the top level which must now put Cashel in a unique position of having both Munster and Leinster Heineken Cup winners jerseys hanging in the clubhouse, not to mention having a representative on the Grand Slam winning team. This is a great credit to the club and to the desire of the members and players to achieve at the highest level.

Congratulations to Maurice Thompson, who was nominated for and received an award for his lifelong involvement in all facets of Cashel Rugby Club.

The club's 'Hog Roast' was a huge success with the days events kicking off with a tag rugby tournament and finishing with a great night in the clubhouse.

The Golf Classic was held in Thurles this year and despite the economic climate was well supported during a good run of weather.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our sponsors and those who give generously to the club financially - it is always much appreciated.

The club year ended with the annual dress dance which was held in the Cashel Palace Hotel this year and as always a long and hard night was has by all and this was not only due to the weather.

A calendar has been produced by the club containing an array of team pictures and which is a must have for all players and club members - each month is dedicated to a particular team and will be available for purchase from this weekend in the clubhouse or from any official of the club - at a cost of €10 this is great value and a super memento.

Club President Padraig Ryan, takes this opportunity to thank all who participated and helped in any way, it is not possible to mention each one individually other than to say that the long list of achievements would not have happened without that help and support.

On a final note the club would like to extend an invitation to anyone interested in playing rugby to come along and check us out any Friday night or Sunday morning.
