Two areas for flooding priority

Priority is to be given to the Galberstown and Horse and Jockey areas when it comes to alleviating flooding in the Thurles area, councillors have been told, as solutions have been identified in each case.

Thurles Area Engineer Mr Ruairi Boland outlined details of the works carried out in the area over the last few weeks to solve local flooding issues in about a dozen locations.

However, the major Cloughmartin and Moyaliffe floods, which have caused great disruption, would require very significant investment to solve and despite an expectation of emergency storm damage funding from the department, they are unlikely to be sorted out in the near future.

“Solving those two problems is going to be a major challenge for us,” Mr Boland told councillors this week.
