Tipperary council urged to carry out waste survey on householders

North Tipperary County Councillor Jim Casey has called for a survey to be undertaken of all households in the county to find out how waste is being disposed.

Speaking at the meeting of the council in Ardcroney - in keeping with holding the December meeting in the home village of the Mayor, Cllr Ger Darcy - he said that the countryside was being destroyed by largescale indiscriminant dumping on the part of a minority.

The vast majority were doing their business in a correct manner but others are letting the county down, he said, and were destroying the countryside as a result.

Cllr Billy Clancy supported his call and added that dumping resulted in scenic areas being spoiled for everyone.

“We need to do something to try and get over this,” he said.

Council official Brian Beck acknowledged that there was a national recognition that dumping needed to be tackled.

“North Tipperary is not over littered though, not by long stretch of the imagination,” he said.
