Our athletes had a very successful outing last Tuesday when they travelled to Nenagh Olympic Athletics Club’s indoor arena to compete in the Munster Schools Indoor Athletics meeting.
In the minor category David Ryan of first year came first in every event he competed in, winning gold in the sixty metre sprint, the shot put and the long jump while fellow first year pupil, Sean Mockler , took the silver medal in the shot put.
In the Junior category Jack Fallon of second year won silver in the 1,200 metres and came sixth in the long jump.
Jack Dolan won a gold medal in the 600 metres with a time of 1 minute and 34 seconds, a full seven seconds ahead of his nearest competitor.
Declan Ryan came seventh in the long jump while the three Junior boys and David Ryan of first year won gold in the Junior relay. At Intermediate level Daniel Ryan of second year won gold in the 60 metres hurdle, the shot put and the long jump.
Michael Foley of fifth year won his 600 metres heat but unfortunately his time was not fast enough to claim overall victory.
Our Rice Cup ‘B’ panel took to the field last Wednesday when they played St. Ailbe’s in a challenge match while a first year selection played Cistercian’s of Roscrea in a practice match on Thursday.
On Wednesday last our 4W transition year class paid a visit to Coolmore Stud in Fethard where they were given a guided tour of the state-of-the-art farm and stud and were afforded the opportunity to see some of the world’s best sires. A very enjoyable day was had by all.
Transition Year Information Night
An information night for the parents of prospective transition year pupils was held in the school on Tuesday evening last.
Parents were informed about how the T.Y. programme operates with special attention given to the timetable, subject options, extra-curricular opportunities and excursions.
The event was very well attended.
