St. Anne’s School has become the first Special School in Ireland to achieve all existing six Green Flag Awards from An Taisce.

On Monday, Principal James McMahon, Board of Management Chairperson Sr. Margaret Dobbin, and Patron Bishop Kieran O’ Reilly hosted a visit from Transport Minister Alan Kelly, celebrating the school’s completion of all seven steps of the Green Schools Programme.

Mr McMahon said that in October 2012, the children, staff, parents and the Board of Management of St. Anne’s school, “embarked upon a journey to update our existing Green Flag award based on the new theme of Global Diversity Litter and Waste.”

With 47 enrolled students, St Anne’s is a co-educational residential and day school for children from 4 to 18 years of age who may present with either a severe and/or profound or moderate general learning disability or with autism and a general learning disability.
