Shock at death of Thurles lady

There was widespread shock in and around Thurles following the death of prominent retired primary school teacher Mary Shanahan, Monadreen, following an accident at Two-Mile-Borris on Monday.

The 74 year old was returning from Aut Even in Kilkenny with her friend Mrs Jo Jo Treacy when her vehicle left the road just outside the village and crashed. It is believed that she suffered a heart attack whilst driving and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed off on Monday evening for a time while Mrs Treacy was taken to South Tipperary General Hospital suffering from shock. She was released on Monday evening and is being comforted by her family.
