There was unanimous opposition to the proposed closure of the County Council Office in Roscrea at last week’s RCDC meeting. With the amalgamation of North and South Tipperary into one Council, Roscrea will be “marginalized and excluded” at the edge of the County.
Members are strongly in favour of retaining and developing Roscrea’s office. Having to travel to Thurles for essential services puts on unacceptable burden on people and puts the local authority outside the reach of many. While many members supported a public protest, it was agreed that initially RCDC would write to the County Manager to express its opposition to the proposed closure of the Roscrea Office.
