North Tipp Civil Defence win four titles in a row

North Tipperary Civil Defence were the successful team at the Civil Defence Regional competition hosted by Limerick County recently.

The win is an impressive fourth Regional Competition in a row for the North Tipperary team at Annacotty Business Park. The tasks set included, Foot Drill, First Aid, Communication and Navigation, Fire Fighting and Flood Defence and Team Challenge.

Adjudicators from Limerick County, under the direction of County Civil Defence Officer, Joss Kirby, assessed and marked each team and scores were added up to determine the final result.A forty minute workshop on the topic of Major Emergency Casualty Treatment Procedure was delivered to participating teams by Advanced Paramedic Tom Connaughton.

Anthony Graham, County Civil Defence Officer, was delighted that the team performed so well in winning what is the fourth Regional Competition for North Tipperary in a row. “Great credit is due to the volunteers for their commitment to Civil Defence, not just for the competition but right through the year. These competitions are an excellent way of assessing the skills and training levels in the organisation,” said Mr Graham.

The aim of the Regional Competitions is to promote the training and skills of the Civil Defence Volunteers, not only at competition time but throughout the year, and to maintain the high standards of Civil Defence Volunteers on a regional basis with each county forming a multi disciplinary team.

This aim was certainly met at this year’s Regional Competitions and great praise is due to Limerick County for hosting a challenging yet enjoyable day for all involved.

The North Tipp Civil Defence team was Tim O’Halloran, James Houliham, Bryan Ely, Gary Shanahan, Séamus Quigley, PJ Graham and Breda Graham (Father and Daughter), Joe Delahunty, Piotr Sosinski, Denis Heffernan, Anthony Fogarty and Michael Scanlon.
