Transport Minister Alan Kelly has welcomed plans for a new bus service connecting the town of Cashel with Portlaoise as well as better journey times to Dublin for passengers for Cashel & Cahir.
Bus Eireann will soon be making changes to their X8 service which will no longer see the X8 stopping in Portlaoise and Urlingford once it leaves Cashel. “Passengers from Cashel and Cahir will be able to avail of quicker journey times to Dublin as the bus will now use the full motorway and be in Dublin twenty-fine mins earlier. This will make public transport more attractive locally and I welcome this,” said Minister Kelly. In conjunction with this the National Transport Authority will in the coming days be commencing a procurement competition to run a shuttle service between Portlaoise and Cashel stopping at Urlingford and other destinations to maintain the connections between Portlaoise and Cashel.
The competition will be for a minimum of two services per day Monday to Saturday to run between Cashel and Portlaoise with additional services to run Fridays and Sundays. Minister Kelly has welcomed the initiative of the National Transport Authority and says it will keep Tipperary passengers connected with a service that runs directly to Portlaoise hospital. The procurement competition will be held over the coming months with Bus Eireann committing to running a feeder shuttle.
