Nenagh Gardai warn car owners after catalytic converter theft from jeep

Nenagh Gardai are warning car owners to be vigilant following the theft of a catalytic converter from a 4x4 in the town on January 18. A Garda spokesman said the converters, which form part of the exhaust system and contain precious metal, could be worth up to E1,000 and were especially easy to steal from jeeps and other 4x4s.

He said there had been reports of a number of such thefts around the country recently.

The spokesman said a 4x4 owner returned to O’Connor’s Shopping Centre, Martyr’s Road, Nenagh, at around 5pm on January 18 to discover the theft.

Meanwhile, a house was burgled in Garrycummer, Kilcommon, on January 19, and a number of items stolen.

The owners were out and discovered the theft when they returned home at around 2am. A car parked outside the house was also broken into and its radio taken.

Gardai at Nenagh are urging anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in either incident to contact them at 067-31333.
