Nenagh garda headbutted during drugs raid on pub

A Nenagh-based garda was headbutted during a search of a pub in Nenagh on Saturday, August 2. The incident happened at around 11pm after the Gardai received a tip-off that people were taking drugs on the premises.

A Garda spokesman said that when they went to investigate, they were confronted by six men who became violent and obstructed the search. The incident spilled out on to the street and the men had to be pepper sprayed twice before they could be arrested.

Meanwhile, the Gardai said that they had made further drug related arrests in Roscrea over the past week and that they had carried out raids on pubs for underage drinkers.

Nenagh gardai are also investigating two burglaries in the area in the past week.

The first happened on August 2 at Four Roads when a woman who had gone shopping came home at around 11.30am to find a window in her house had been forced. The thieves took gold, jewellery and cash. A Garda spokesperson said enquiries were ongoing.

The second burglary was in Ballina on August 4 and was detected after the keyholder to a house noticed a suspicious car in the driveway.

When the vehicle left, the keyholder discovered that a window in the house had been forced. It is not known if anything was taken in the break-in.

A witness reported two suspicious vehicles in the area at the time - a 1990s-style Opel Vectra and an Izuzu Trooper. One of the vehicles was being driven by a man described as being in his 40s and having long, blond hair tied in a ponytail.

Anybody with any information is asked to contact Nenagh gardai at 067-31333.

A woman who left her belongings in a car at Clare Glens, Newport, had her wallet and personal items stolen on July 30 sometime before 4pm. The woman returned to her car to find the front window of her car broken and the items missing.
