Lidl signsrefused planning

Roscrea will have to be taken down, heard a Templemore Area Meeting this week.

The signs were erected by the German retail giant in four “very prominent locations” around town, said Cllr Michael Smith.

“My information is that these signs have been refused. I would have to welcome it. I don’t think they are in keeping with the heritage of the town. They should be taken down immediately,” added Cllr Smith. Cllr Denis Ryan said the Tidy Towns have a strategy for signage, which “they are trying to apply strictly.” Senior Engineer John Jones said they need instructions to have them removed. Some business people in Roscrea had concerns the signs gave Lidl an unfair advantage. Cllr Smith said if one business were allowed to put up such signs, then there should be a “level playing field” for all businesses.
