Every town, village and crossroads in Tipperary has a rich heritage. There is the built heritage, history, folklore and stories that help to connect us with our past.

These strands are woven together and have shaped us and the environment we live in. Each generation has left its mark and we are the inheritors of it all. Since Holycross Community Network were founded over a year ago the members have been very active in promoting the extraordinary heritage of the area. Not alone is the restored Abbey known world wide but the villages themselves are gems of beauty and landmarks. Many lovely stories and folk tales enrich the history of this mid -Tipperary parish.

There is an ambitious programme of events planned for Heritage Week. Beginning on Sat. 23rd August there is a three-site visit to Derynaflan, KIlcooley and Holycross. Guides at the three sites will be Sean Watts, Liam Noonan and John Bourke, with Jimmy Duggan giving a linking background commentary on the coach. Meet in Holycross at 9.30 am. Derrynaflan talk: 10-12. Bring packed lunch or buy your own at Horse and Jockey Hotel. Kilcooley: 1-3 pm and Holycross: 3.30-5.30 pm. Tea provided in Holycross (price included). Toilets in H & J and Holycross. Because there are transport and other costs involved there will be a charge of €20 per adult for the day. Children €10 and must be accompanied by an adult.
