Fracas Disrupts Thurles Court

THURLES District Court was disrupted by a major fracas between two Templemore factions on Tuesday morning this week. Normal Court proceedings had to be suspended when a fight broke out between two men on the footsteps of the Courthouse as they waited for their cases to be heard. One witness told the Tipperary Star he saw about 20 men becoming involved. The row started after one of the men came out of the Courthouse, and became involved with another man waiting on the steps. “They went straight into each other,” a passerby said. “I don’t know what started it, but they were both arrested.”

Gardaí had to separate the men inside and outside the Courthouse, and Judge Elizabeth McGrath had to call a recess as at least two Garda Squad Cars were called as backup to control the melée. Some of the men were taken to Thurles Garda Station. It’s understood at least one senior Thurles Garda received an injury during the confusion.
