First Count Expected in local elections within the hour

The first count for the local elections in Tipperary is due from the count centre in the Presentation Secondary School in Thurles within the next hour. And, early indications from tallies suggest that the Labour Party will lose a number of established candidates across the county.

Already in the Thurles/Templemore area Michael Smith looks set to be elected on the first count, while Joe Hannigan from the Nenagh area is also polling away ahead of everyone else.

The turnout has been average in the county - about 57% projected at this stage.

More details later when the first count is announced. The counting is expected to go right through the night and probably into Sunday as well.
