Fethard Burncourt Scheme goes ahead

Mr. Phil Hogan, T.D., Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government has announced that he has approved the necessary funding to allow South Tipperary County Council award the €12.4m contract to provide Water Treatment Plants and ancillary works, at Cloran, Fethard and Glengarra, Burncourt ,which are critical elements of the Burncourt & Fethard Regional Water Supply Scheme.

South Tipperary County Council, under the Scheme, propose to provide new Water Treatment Plants and ancillary works at Burncourt and Fethard. The Minister said that “The works, for which I am approving funding today, when completed, will provide Burncourt, Fethard and their Environs with a secure and quality drinking water supply that will cater for residential and commercial needs for the foreseeable future and will comply with European and National standards for drinking water”.

“Given the importance of the scheme locally, I will be asking South Tipperary County Council to complete the contract formalities with the successful tenderer and start work on the contract at the earliest possible date.” the Minister concluded.
