E10m for unfinished houses boost Cleary

Fine Gael Councillor and Local Elections Candidate for the Templemore/Thurles District Michael Cleary, today welcomed the fact that €10 million is being made available in this year’s budget to deal with unfinished housing developments.

“Since the Government came into office, there has been a 56% decrease in the number of unfinished developments. However, there are families still living on 992 unfinished developments around the country,” Cllr Michael Cleary said.

“This €10 million fund should go some way towards resolving some of the most seriously problematic developments,” he commented.

“The vast majority of unfinished estates are resolved by the developer/funder who agrees a plan to resolve issues on an estate.  This may often involve scaling back on the original plans while ensuring that the units that are complete can be occupied.  This will continue to be the case.  However, there are problematic estates where, as things stand, there is little prospect of resolution,” he said.
