Moves are underway at high end to have the Derrynaflan Chalice and hoard repatriated to Tipperary in 2015 to mark the 35th anniversary of it’s discovery near Littleton.
The priceless hoard would bring significant security, insurance and logistical concerns but venues such as The Source, County Museum and St Patrick’s College in Thurles are being mentioned as possible locations, were the bid to get the go ahead.
The Tipperary Star understands that Minister Alan Kelly is leading the charge alongside the newly formed Hidden Tipperary tourism group. It is claimed that the presence of the hoard in Tipp would be a massive boost to tourism figures. See P4.
