Death of well known Eire Og Nenagh and Moneygall GAA man

The death of 89 year old former Moneygall hurler and Life President of Nenagh Eire Og GAA club Jack Kennedy has occasioned much sadness in North Tipperary this week.

Predeceased by his wife Anna - an aunt of former Tipp hurler Michael Cleary - Jack Kennedy was very well known for his exploits with his native Moneygall back in the 40’s and 50’s. He won a county intermediate hurling title with them in 1949 playing at wing forward and was also a good footballer.

Jack has been credited with playing a major role in the development of the clubhouse in Moneygall back in the 70’s and almost singlehandedly painted the facility prior to it’s opening.

He worked with a home decor wholesale business in Birr for many years before establishing his own shop in Summerhill in Nenagh - Albany paints which later became Home Decor, and is now run by Jacks son John.

Upon moving to Nenagh, Jack became involved with the club and had beena committee member for more than 30 years. His three sons, Philip, Michael and John all played for Tipperary at different levels while his daughter Mary is married to former Tipp hurler, Liam Maher of Boherlahan. His other daughter Anne is current Secretary of Nenagh juvenile GAA club. Sympathy is extended to his brothers Philip and Eamonn, sisters Ann and Betty, his children, the extended family and friendss. Ar dheis De go raibh a Anam dilis.
