Tipperary TD Noel Coonan has welcomed confirmation that Sgt Tom O’Dwyer from Clonmel Garda station has been successful in the competition for crime prevention officer position in the Tipperary Division.
Deputy Coonan said he had been pursuing this matter with Garda officials for some time in the best interests of public service.
“Sgt O’Dwyer will be attached to Divisional Headquarters at Thurles. The crime prevention officer Tipperary Division has not been replaced since the retirement of Sgt Sean Sherlock and the CPO from Waterford Division was utilised for duty in the Tipperary Division.
“While the high level of service was maintained under Sgt Sherlock, it is welcome news that our division will once again have our own dedicated CPO.
“I have been contact by constituents who were concerned about the issue and I am pleased to hear this announcement. I have been informed that the transfer will be effected shortly,” said Deputy Coonan.
