Consultants appointed to Nenagh CCTV project

The appointment of J&N Security Consultants to oversee the installation of CCTV in Nenagh has been welcomed by Cllr Tommy Moylan. Their work will include site assessment, design, tendering process and final delivery within the next four to six months.

Cllr Moylan had pushed for CCTV during his term as Mayor in the last town council. Following a feasibility study, council funding was set aside for the project, but matching funding did not materialise from the Department of Justice. The council has now decided to advance this project on its own.

Cllr Moylan explained that the process over the next for to six months will give the people of Nenagh the chance to engage with the project to ensure that it is truly a community based project. Consultations will also be held with the local Garda and superintendent and a submission will be made to the Garda National CCTV Advisory Committee which will ensure the full support for the project by An Garda Siochana. It is hoped that the project will be operational by May 2014.

“This CCTV System for the town centre will be of enormous benefit to the public, business community and An Garda Siochana to help in dealing with crime, anti social behaviour, litter control and other security issues and will help keep the town centre a safe environment for everyone to enjoy.

“I hope that the system, while initially will most likely only cover the main streets of the town, that over the next year or two that it will be expanded to include other areas around Nenagh as required,” he said.

Cllr Moylan said that he was hopeful that local security contractors would be given every chance to tender for this work to ensure that local business and local jobs remain in Nenagh.
