Cashel King Cormacs

West U21 Hurling Final

It was a bitterly disappointing end to our U21s journey in the West Championship.

Clonoulty Rossmore laid down an early marker with a point after just 19 seconds and though Cashel did match their opponent’s score for score in the opening twenty minutes. Two goals in a five minutes period knocked Cashel for six as they struggled to keep tabs.

Facing into an eleven-point half time deficit, it was a case of throwing caution to the wind in the second half. And to be fair the lads never stopped trying and had lady luck been a wee bit kinder Cashel could well have had a further two goals to their tally of 2-11. Clonoulty were deserving winners on the day but Cashel will need to take the positives and work hard on the weaknesses. Defeated in two back-to-back West A Finals is scant consolation for the effort and time put in but if the players continue to apply themselves and increase their efforts the tide will surely turn sooner rather than later. A special thanks to the management team of TJ Connolly, PJ Mooney and Donal O’Donoghue for their time and dedication over the course of the U21 championship and to the droves of Cashel supporters who got behind the team on Sunday last. Team: O’Quirke, MK O’Dwyer, K O’Leary, Paddy Morrissey, E Ryan, S Delaney (0-1), S Reade, J Grogan (1-5), Fionnan Ryan, D Fitzell (1-4), Robert Anglim (0-1), Gearoid Slattery, James Cummins, Cathal Minogue, M McDermott.

Subs – Cormac Ryan for Seamus Reade, B Laffan for J Cummins, D Bowes for Gearoid Slattery & Conor Devitt for Fionnan Ryan.
