Call to tackle N.T. dumping

North Tipperary County Councillor Jim Casey has called for a survey to be undertaken of all households in the county to find out how waste is being disposed of.

Speaking at the monthly meeting of the council in Ardcroney this week - in keeping with holding the December meeting in the home village of the Mayor, Cllr Ger Darcy - Cllr Casey said that the countryside is being destroyed by largescale indiscriminant dumping on the part of a minority. The vast majority are doing their business in a correct manner but others are letting the county down he said and are destroying the countryside as a result.

Cllr Billy Clancy supported his call for a survey to be undertaken and added that dumping results in scenic areas being spoiled for everyone. “We need to do something to try and get over this,” he said.

Council official Mr Brian Beck acknowledged that there is a national recognition that the dumping issue needs to be tackled. “North Tipperary is not over littered though - not a long strenth of the imagination,” Mr Beck said.
