The last weekend has been a busy one for Cashel Boxing Club. On Friday evening last, Olympic southpaw Adam Nolan paid a visit to the newly formed club which was established in 2011.

He was greeted to Cashel by coaches Petra Elftorp and Noel Philips and committee members Sr. Mary Walsh and Councillor Martin Browne. Superintendent Duggan and other members of An Garda Síochána were present too to meet their fellow Garda who had travelled from Bray to Cashel. Adam met with the younger members of the club who were thrilled to meet the current Irish Welterweight Boxing Champion. Adam told them about his experience as an Olympic boxer and how competing in the London Olympics was a once in a lifetime experience. He explained to the captive audience how important it is to listen to your coach’s advice and spoke about the training and dedication that’s needed to succeed at the highest level in sport. Adam currently trains for 3 hours, twice a day, for 6 days a week!

Adam is back working with Katie Taylor and the cream of Irish boxers at the Irish Boxing High Performance Unit in Dublin under the guidance of Billy Walsh. The Cashel boxers greatly enjoyed the experience, and asked Adam many questions about his bouts and his future ambitions in boxing. Adam said he would love to return again to the club, and that he would be delighted if, in the not too distant future, boxers from Cashel would bring back Olympic medals to Ireland! Overall he was very impressed with Cashel Boxing Club, the dedication of its coaches and the enthusiasm of the young boxers.

Later on that evening (Friday the 7th ), the Fashion Show fundraiser for the club took place in Halla Na Feile, and the club is very appreciative of all the support from the participating shops, the hall committee, the glamorous models and those that attended on the night. Christine Fogarty and Sarah Hill were the main organisers and did a superb job, as they managed to pull off a great night with plenty of refreshments, spot prices, and last but certainly not least, fashion!

On arrival, guests were treated to a cheese and wine reception, and also a selection of snacks and delicious mulled wine. There were stalls from local companies who had set up for the night and offered a large range of crafts and jewellery. Philip Ryan was compere for the night and did an excellent job. The models did a great job too, displaying all the fashion from Golden Threads, Paco, Only, Fashion4you.ie, Uptown Girl, Dunnes Stores, Brehon Sports and Tesco on the cat walk. It was an important fundraiser for Cashel Boxing Club which is run by volunteers, and the club is very grateful for all those that contributed in any way towards making the night such a success.
