Book launch in Bru Ború

Archbishop Miler McGrath (1523 - 1622)

Archbishop Miler McGrath (1523 - 1622)

A highly significant publication, Archbishop Miler Magrath, The Enigma of Cashel, by Clonoulty Rossmore native Fr. Patrick J. Ryan, will by launched by Willie Nolan, D. Ph., Professor Emeritus of Geography, on Wednesday May 28th at 7pm in Bru Ború.

The book should be of great benefit to all those interested in the complex period of the Reformation in Ireland. The wily and intriguing Archbishop Magrath, 1522-1622, who was in turn Franciscan priest, Catholic bishop of Down and Connor, first Protestant bishop of Clogher, Protestant archbishop of Cashel and Emly, to which was added for some years the bishoprics of Waterford and Lismore and the bishoprics of Killala and Achronry, has been of absorbing interest to Fr. Ryan and was the subject of his MA thesis as a student. It contains much material relevant to Miler’s own large family and its many connections in Tipperary and elsewhere. All are welcome.
