Beating the Credit Crunch: Ed O’Donnell of O’Donnell Crisps, speaks at LIT Thurles

LIT Thurles

Future Business Leaders of Ireland Association welcomed Ed O’Donnell of “O’Donnells’ Crisps” to LIT/Thurles campus recently.

Ed, a self-effacing and good-humoured character, spoke candidly about the journey from farmer to businessman and gave the impression of someone who greets obstacles with unwavering optimism and good humour.

There’s no denying that the success of “O’Donnells’ crisps” has been phenomenal.

Creative

Creative thinking comes naturally to Ed, it seems, who once filled a tractor with packets of crisps and asked people to guess how many packets there were!

This was one of the innovative marketing strategies used to raise brand awareness among local people.

The crisps, which are now a household name, have steadily gained a secure niche in Ireland’s marketplace as well as being exported to six or seven countries in Europe.

China is currently being explored as a potential market.

Acute attention to detail, extensive market research as well as passion for your business idea are some of the most important factors to consider when setting up a business according to Ed.

Positive thinking

“Negativity is contagious”, says Ed, who prefers to dwell on the positive aspects of life.

Although business can be tiring and mentally draining Ed admits to enjoying the buzz of it all and hopes to see his business go from strength to strength.

We wish him continued success in the future and look forward to future events at LIT/Thurles campus organized by the FBLI.
