Cloughjordan's Scouts take bronze at Phoenix event

Cloughjordan Scouts, pictured above, took silver at their very first attempt in the Phoenix, a national four-day annual camping event which involves patrols of eight scouts competing in scouting Skills. A total of 96 teams competed in the event, which was held in atrocious weather conditions. Phoenix came third place in The Shield, which is a county level event. The team trained all summer, practicing building their campsite and other skills that would be needed. Leaders supervised training, prepared equipment and made arrangements for transporting everything to Mount Melleray, Waterford, where the competition was held. Disaster struck on the first day when their patrol leader had to leave due to an accident setting up the camp, but, having elected a deputy the scouts refused to give up, battling their way to a bronze
