To celebrate Global Wind Energy day on June 15th, a happy group of staff and pupils from St. Anne’s Special School Roscrea visited Monaincha Windfarm.

The day was co-ordinated by Alan Edwards and his team who showed the pupils the inside of a turbine and gave a brief explanation of how the turbines work. Monaincha Wind Farm is a 36 MW wind farm located in Monaincha Bog between Roscrea Co. Tipperary and Borris-in- Ossory, Co. Laois. It has 15 generating units. The pupils were invited to leave painted handprints on tower of turbine windmill No. 9 which they did willingly and with great enthusiasm in multi-colour paint. Monaincha Windfarm then presented a donation to the Parents’ Association of St. Anne’s Special School who are currently fundraising for their new playground.
