Tracing Missing Persons Workshop

On the 26th of May 2011, Joseph Blake, Chairman of “Trace Missing Persons Ireland” and a team of dog handlers held a workshop in Golden Grove Woods with the Sacred Heart Primary School and Scoil Eoin. The event was organised in conjunction with H.S.C.L and parents. Joseph Blake gave a talk and a demonstration to 5th and 6th class students on how the search and rescue dogs work in a child friendly way. The students then spent some time in the woods searching for items and watching how the dogs and the handlers work together in search of a missing person. A great day was had by all. Everyone went home with the knowledge of what Joseph Blake does and what he had taught them. Students also learned the importance of letting someone know where they are at all times. It is of utmost importance that all children are educated on this matter.

The day’s activities were closely linked with the “Copping On Programme” which is run each year in three of the local primary schools. This programme encourages children to take responsibility for their actions.
