Last Friday August 28th the academic year purred into life with the arrival of the ‘first years’ for their first day in Cashel Community School.
The obvious level of excitement and anticipation was not confined to the students for it was also the first day for new principal John Gallagher, who was appointed during the Summer to take over from Eddie Morrissey, who had been at the helm since the school opened in 1994. A native of Donegal, John has been down this neck of the woods since his college days in Limerick. An advocate of coeducation, in which he has been immersed for all of his career, John has previously taught in schools in Waterford, Kilkenny and Wexford. Married to Fiona, they have four children, three boys and a girl, two off to college, one having just completed the junior certificate examinations and the youngest just like his father starting second level in a new school this week.
