Downes’ Eurospar Templemore has announced that it has chosen Friends of the Hospital of the Assumption as its nominated Charity Partner until 2016.

The Irish-owned supermarket will help raise much needed funds to support the important work of this locally-based group. As part of Eurospar’s new local charity programme, each of the group’s community supermarkets decide which charity they want to work with locally and Friends of the Hospital of the Assumption was specifically chosen by Downes’ Eurospar Templemore. According to supermarket owner, Derek Downes, Friends of the Hospital of the Assumption was selected based on feedback from customers and staff. “When looking to nominate our local charity, we thought the most appropriate way to make the decision was by asking our customers and staff, who voted overwhelmingly in favour of Friends of the Hospital of the Assumption. This charity provides a vital service to elderly people and their families in North Tipperary and we are delighted to support them.” As part of the charity programme, the store will make a donation from the sale of a selected range of Spar Own Brand products, these products will be highlighted in-store.

Monies will also be raised through collection boxes in-store as well as through local fundraising initiatives organised by the charity, store and staff. The first of these fundraising events will take place on Saturday 20th December, as part of the store’s Family Fun Day and Christmas Foods Fair, with live broadcast from Tipp FM, the store will sell tickets for prize draw with all proceeds being donated to Friends of the Hospital of the Assumption. The Charity operates a Community Hospital for the Elderly which is situated on the outskirts of Thurles Town, which opened in February 2006. The hospital campus consists of three distinct nursing units and a day hospital. It has 67 places and a day hospital with 12 day places. It provides rehabilitation, respite care, assessment care, palliative care and residential care. To make a donation locally please drop into Downes’ Eurospar Templemore. Downes’ Eurospar Templemore has been serving the local community since 2009. The store employs 24 people locally and their opening hours are from 7.30am – 9pm seven days a week.
