This year is a special year for the community in Golden and in particular all those associated with the National School. On June 23rd Golden National School will celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the current school building, located in the village adjacent to the GAA grounds.

Incidentally, the first national school in the village, overlooking the river Suir just behind the Main Street, received National School status in 1847.

To celebrate education in the village of Golden, a number of special events will take place. The evening will begin in the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, Golden at 6.30pm with a special Mass of thanksgiving. Festivities will continue in the school where the whole community can recall school days gone by.

A book on the history of the school will be launched and a fantastic photographic exhibition will take place. This promises to be an evening to remember for all past pupils and, indeed, friends of Golden National School with a few extra surprises in store. There will be plenty of entertainment for children and refreshments will be provided. Mark the date into your diary and spread the word to all those who may be interested in joining the celebrations.
