The Rock is one of six Irish attractions which have made the list of 500 must see sights of all time, released by the guidebook publisher Lonely Planet.

It is described by Lonely Planet as “one of the Emerald Isle’s most spectacular archaeological sites which bristles with ancient fortifications” and makes the list at number 497. “I am delighted to see the Rock included on a list of global sights to see. The number of people visiting the Rock each year continues to increase, with almost 280,000 last year We must continue to build on this success and ensure that the town and its businesses continues to reap the benefits of our large footfall of tourists in order to maintain our strong visitor numbers and to make sure that Rock remains one of Ireland’s main tourists attractions,” he said.
