The Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland’s Specialist Dementia Centre , Waterman’s Lodge in Ballina , has been named
Specialist Centre of the Year at the prestigious Irish Healthcare awards, 2015.
The centre, which was nominated under the Specialist Centre of the Year category, is one of two national respite centres run by the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland.
The awards, held in Dun Laoghaire on Friday night saw Waterman’s take the top prize ahead of nominees including Temple Street Hospital, Tuiscint Mental Health Day Services, Daughters of Charity Disability Support Services and Tullamore Community Mental Health Services. A former landmark hotel, Waterman’s Lodge was acquired by the Alzheimer Society of Ireland in 2008 and extensively modernised and converted into a dementia specific care centre.
