Tipperary Deputy Michael Lowry has called for greater urgency, a clear statement of commitment, and an immediate plan of action from the Government to protect rural post offices and to ensure the viability of the post office network going forward.

The Independent T.D. for Tipperary stated that 2015 could be one of the worst years for Post Office closures if a decisive plan of action for their future is not immediately implemented and fully supported by the Government.

Deputy Lowry stated;

“Over the last 6 weeks we have seen a number of protests over the closure of Post Office services in various parts of the country.”

“While I welcome the creation of a Business Development Group my concern is that, if the current crisis continues, we will have a raft of closures before the Group even publish their report.”
