My name is John Hennessy I am 34yr of age from Castlecomer, Co Kilkenny and I am an addict.

“I have struggled with the disease of addiction since the age of 17. I first went into the Aiséirí Treatment Centre in Cahir Co Tipperary at the age of 21. I was doing ok for a few years but I re-lapsed four years ago and my life was completely unmanageable. So I made a decision in February to go back into treatment again. I did my 28 days residential treatment and I now do my aftercare for one night a week for two years. I also attend Narcotics Anonymous meetings and a recovery group every week.

“My life has completely changed for the better and I owe it all to Aiséirí. So to give something back I decided to raise money for Aiséirí by doing a Skydive Challenge with Skydive Ireland, Kilkenny. I raised a total of €1100 for Aiséirí. The skydive was an experience that I will never forget the feeling when you are Free Falling from 10,000ft, 130 miles per hr,200 feet per second was just unreal a hard to describe. I had originally planned the Skydive Challenge for October 5th, my birthday, but due to the weather we had to postpone until Sunday, Oct. 12th. I can’t say I was that nervous about doing the Skydive. But the staff at skydive Ireland were so good they made the whole experience that much easier and pleasant. As soon as we landed back on the ground I just wanted to go back up and do it all over again. It was one of the best experiences of my life. I will be back to take on the www.skydivechallenge.ie in the future. As they say at Skydive Ireland ‘Life Is For Living.’”
