Nenagh’s Cllr Seamus Morris has called on Tipperary County Council to say whether or not it has been asked by Irish Water to supply the names and details of its tenants.

The Sinn Fein councillor has also asked the council to seek legal advice as to whether it is within its legal rights to withhold information from any private company seeking such personal information. He further wants to council to keep him updated about any such advice.

“I would also ask that Tipperary County Council not part with any information to Irish Water and that I be updated on any correspondence from Irish Water in conjunction to our tenants,” stated Cllr Morris.

Cllr Morris also wants the council to tell any housing associations or landlords that provide people on Tipperary County Council housing lists that they should not seek any personal information about tenants or housing applicants until such time as the council had sought legal advice.
