The European Parliament has called for an international investigation into the deaths of Irishman Michael Dwyer and two other EU nationals at the hands of Bolivian police in April 2009.

The European Parliament has called for an international investigation into the deaths of Irishman Michael Dwyer and two other EU nationals at the hands of Bolivian police in April 2009.

The call was backed by Ireland South MEP Sean Kelly.

The resolution follows the submission to the United Nations of evidence gathered by Mr Dwyer’s family which they say proves their son was summarily executed by Bolivian authorities following a police raid on the hotel where he and the four other men were staying.

The Bolivian authories have claimed that Mr Dwyer was part of a plot to assassinate the country’s president and died in a shootout with armed forces.
