The Ramblers headed to Bantry last weekend – a great group of 26 walkers. Our base for the weekend was The Westlodge Hotel.
While there was rain on the way down on Friday evening, Saturday was a fantastic day as all walkers headed by bus from the hotel to Ahakista, where we met our guide – Charlie McCarthy. Charlie brought us on a 10 kilometre walk over Rossderig Mountain in glorious sunshine. The views were spectacular and Charlie filled us in on all the local history. The walk ended up in Eileen Fitzpatricks pub in Kilcrohane in time to watch the Munster match.
While the result wasn’t in our favour, a great evening was had by all. Sunday morning, we went by bus to Gougane Barra and went on a short walk to see the beautiful church and down to the forest. The scenery over the weekend was spectacular and this area is well worth a visit – why not have a look at www.thesheephead.com. There are no walks this weekend, being a bank holiday. A fresh list of walks for the next couple of months will be posted on the website by the end of the week. The Tuesday walks continue – meet in Damer Court carpark at 7pm every Tuesday.
