Gardai are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a body in Tipperary yesterday (April 30th).

It is believed the body is that of Bobby Ryan, 52, who went missing nearly two years ago. His family are being kept informed about the Garda investigation.

A post-mortem examination is to be carried out on the body which was found in a slurry tank in the Fawnagowan area, between Tipperary and Bansha, at about 2pm.

Gardai have not confirmed the body is that of Mr Ryan, a popular local entertainer known as “Mr Moonlight”. Mr Ryan, from Boherlahan near Cashel, went missing on Friday, 3 June 2011. He had travelled to Fawnagowan the day before his disappearance to stay with a girlfriend, according to garda sources. Mr Ryan’s family launched a widespread appeal for information on his whereabouts, with a poster and local media campaign. His brother John, and daughter Michelle, have told reporters that they believe the body is that of Mr Ryan’s.

The discovery was made at the rear of a local house. The area has been preserved for technical and forensic examination. The State Pathologist and local Coroner have been notified. An incident room has been established at Tipperary town Garda station. Enquiries are ongoing and further updates will follow.
