Lowry team Councillor, Evelyn Nevin, has hit out at the Government for targeting already strained carers in Budget 2013. Councillor Nevin said it was despicable that the carers and families that are saving the Government millions and millions, year upon year, have now been hit with a 20% reduction to their respite care grant.
“When examined in light of the cutbacks carers have already been forced to shoulder and the cutbacks to services across the board, this may be the final straw.”
“It disgusts me that the little comfort and short break they get in the form of respite care is being eroded into.”
“This cut will adversely impact on the quality of life of both carer and the person being cared. It is indefensible.”
