Three members of Thurles Town Council, along with members of Thures Hospital Action Committee, handed in a petition at Dail Eireann signed by 8,548 people calling for the restoration of 22 beds in the Hospital of the Assumption.

The figure from the petition did not include the 5,000 names already gathered in a previous petition, making a total of over 13,000 who are against closing beds at the community facility.
