Jimmy Doyle Road Needs Time to ‘Bed-in”

Members of Thurles Town Council have been encouraged to allow for a “bedding-in period” following the opening of the new Jimmy Doyle Thurles Link Road before attempting to make any rash decisions on traffic management in the Cathedral Town.

Members of Thurles Town Council have been encouraged to allow for a “bedding-in period” following the opening of the new Jimmy Doyle Thurles Link Road before attempting to make any rash decisions on traffic management in the Cathedral Town.

Town Manager Mr Matt Shortt, was reacting to a Notice of Motion from Cllrs Noel O’Dwyer, David Doran and Jim Ryan at the last monthly meeting of the council, who had submitted the motion, “In order that the Jimmy Doyle road be used to its full potential in helping to alleviate traffic congestion throughout the town, we are calling on this Council to extend the single yellow line the full length of Parnell Street and implement a clearly indicated weight restriction on trucks entering Cuchulainn Road to ensure use of the link road by HGV’s. We are asking also that a mini roundabout be placed on the junction with Parnell Street, if two way traffic is allowed to continue with Rossa Street. We request that a vote be taken on this Notice of Motion.”
