Roscrea Comhaltas Launches 50th Anniversary Celebration Events

Friday night 14th October 2011 in Damer Court Hotel, Roscrea saw Roscrea branch of Comhaltas launched their calendar of events to celebrate fifty years of Comhaltas Ceolteoirí Eireann in the town. The night started with junior members of the branch entertaining the large gathering to music, song and dance. After words of welcome by Mr.Tim Maher incoming chairman of the branch the junior members were presented with medals that they won during 2011.

The night started with junior members of the branch entertaining the large gathering to music, song and dance. After words of welcome by Mr.Tim Maher incoming chairman of the branch the junior members were presented with medals that they won during 2011.

Master of ceremonies for the evening was Mr. Pat Flanagan who then introduced Mr. Liam Doran to announce the calendar of events which will include the launch of a commemorative calendar, a book and a CD, Lyrics Board night, Hosting of the Tipperary Co Fleadh and many other events not yet finalised.

The first of these events then took place when Mr. Eamon Stafford the first chairman of the branch almost fifty years ago launched the commemorative calendar 2012 which includes many photographs from over the years and is on sale @ €5. Eamon then presented calendars to members of the Tipperary Co Board present.

Mr Tim Maher then presented plaques to the chairpersons, secretaries and treasurers of the branch over the fifty years as far as they were able to be located.

Mr. Donnchadh O’Cinnéide, Secretary of Tipperary Co Board and Mr. Padraig O Duffy Ard Comhairle then gave short speeches. After photographs and refreshments the night ended with a lively session of music and song. Next event for the branch is Mass for all deceased members and friends of Comhaltas on 4th November @ 7.30pm in St Cronan’s Roscrea.
