Senior Engineer Michael Hayes told Templemore area councillors at their October meeting that the Council was looking at increasing the speed limit on the old N8 from 80kph to 100kph.

Cllr Hogan said there were a number of “young fellas” speeding around cul-de-sacs near the N8 between Urlingford and the Horse and Jockey.

Cllr Hogan said he was “not happy” with increasing the speed limit.

Cllr Coonan and Cllr Eddie Moran also complained about the speed limit increase. Mr Hayes said the national limit was set at a “blanket 80kph” on third class roads. However, Mr Hayes said drivers “should drive according to the conditions available.”
