GARDAI in Cashel are investigating a violent raid on an Esso Station in the town during which five hooded men used a car as a battering ram to gain entry and terrorise a female member of staff.
Shortly before 1am on Tuesday morning, five men - all wearing hoodies - pulled up in a blue Skoda car with either a Kerry or Kildare registration, and demanded money from a female member of staff on the other side of the shop window. The shop area of the petrol station is locked during the night to protect staff.
Three of the five men got out of the car and brandished weapons at the terrified woman, who went to barricade herself in a back office. The raiders then got back into the car with the other men and used it to smash into the front of the shop, located on the Dublin road. The men forced their way in and took the contents of the till. It’s understood a sledgehammer was also used to gain entry into the back office where the woman was taking refuge, and that her handbag was taken.
Gardai were alerted to the scene, and gave chase to the men’s vehicle at high speed. The blue Skoda was last seen speeding in the direction of the Dualla road. Gardai at Cashel Garda Station are currently examining CCTV footage of the break-in, and are appealing for witnesses to contact Cashel Garda Station at 062 62866.
